Pendleton’s Thirteenth Annual Fall Harvest Festival will be held on the Village Green in Pendleton on Saturday, October 1st. The festival will run from 10AM to 5PM, and will feature quality crafts, entertainment, food vendors, old-fashioned children’s games and fine family fun. Crowd-pleasing banjo player, Charles Wood, will be performing again this year, along with the Pendleton Swingers, a fabulous square-dance group who will make you want to dance! Upstate Dance and Baton and Zander Morris will feature local talent, and, always foot-tapping fun, Breazeale's Grocery Bluegrass will be with us this year! Once again, Pendleton's own D.J. Patrick Brock will be on hand throughout the day.

The ever-popular Split Creek Farm will bring a selection of award-winning goat cheese; Hevy Mann will have his fresh lemonade & melt-in-your-mouth funnel cakes; and there will be a variety of festival fare. Our craft vendors will bring beautiful, handmade jewelry, exquisite hand-smocked dresses for "little princesses," and handmade soaps and lotions sure to delight. Over 60 vendors will fill the historic Village Green for this fun event.

The fifth ever “Bubba-Bake-Off” will also be held, featuring local fellas showing off their most(ly) creative baking skills! If last year’s entries are any indication, this is an event that would make Betty Crocker proud and that will tickle you good! Cakes will be auctioned by one of our local "personalities," with proceeds going to the Pendleton Leadership Foundation., an organization made up of Leadership Pendleton alumni whose purpose is to make a positive impact on our community. Freedom Fest is a fun family event with a patriotic theme featuring music by DJ Ty Buchanan, great food, fun games and activities, a salute to our heroes and the best fireworks display around. Freedom Fest 2011 will be on July 2 at Veterans Park located on Lebanon Rd in Pendleton.

Crafters Needed for Pendleton's Fall Harvest Festival

Pendleton’s Twelfth Annual Fall Harvest Festival, sponsored by the Clemson Area Chamber of Commerce and the Pendleton Area Council, will be held on the Village Green in Pendleton on Saturday, October 9th. The festival will run from 10AM to 5PM, and will feature quality crafts, entertainment, food vendors, old-fashioned children’s games and fine family fun. Crowd-pleasing banjo player, Charles Wood, will be performing again this year, along with the Pendleton Swingers, a fabulous square-dance group who will make you want to dance!
The fourth ever “Bubba-Bake-Off” will also be held, featuring local fellas showing off their most(ly) creative baking skills! If last year’s entries are any indication, this is an event that would make Betty Crocker proud and that will tickle you good! Cakes will be auctioned by our very own Danny Ford, with proceeds going to “Step Up to the Plate,” a fundraising campaign to renovate the ball fields at our Veterans Park.

Annual Ride for Raptors is scheduled to kick off this great event. There are three routes that a rider can choose from: a fun 25 mile ride for family and friends, a metric century of 66 miles for the athletic rider and a century of 100 miles for the really serious rider. All routes have rest areas with water and snacks. This charitable bicycle ride donates all proceeds to Carolina Raptor Center (CRC), a regional rehabilitation and education center that serves Western NC SC and admits over 700 injured or orphaned raptors every year. These birds are critical to a healthy environment. They help control the populations of squirrels, rodents, and snakes in our backyards and neighborhoods and they provide diversity to the eco-systems we depend on for our own survival.

Zlaty, a golden eagle, is an annual visitor to Ride for Raptors. Zlaty is a permanent resident and education ambassador for CRC. He was found in with a severe wing injury in 1985 and came to CRC shortly afterwards. He is one of over 100 permanent residents at the Center. Come see Zlaty on October 9.

This year marks the 20th year for FREEDOM FEST at Veterans Park in Pendleton SC and we hope that you will make plans to join us on July 3rd. This Patriotic event will feature music by Southern Crescent Band, Great Food, Bingo, Childrens Games and Inflatables, and lots more. Please come early and join in all the activities which will be provided by Friends of the Park volunteers. Last year the weather was beautiful and it was a perfect spring weekend in Pendleton. Maybe the same thing will hold true again for us this year. Let's sure hope so.

It won't be long until the Fall Harvest Festival on the square in Pendleton SC. This event is always such fun for the entire family and I am really looking forward to it. Vendors fill the Village Green where there is good food, old timey games for children, good music and lots of talented crafters. I understand from Jean Vegod that there is still space available for this fun event. It is a laid back atmosphere with the crisp fall air combining with a great crowd to make it a very special day in Pendleton.

Don't miss the Bubba Bake Off. Local gentlemen enter their cakes in this competition and then you can bid on them - the cakes not the gentlemen! All the proceeds from the Bubba Bake Off will be donated to a local charity.

Spring Jubilee 09 - A Big Success

Oh, it was wonderful. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and the crowds of people that came to enjoy this wonderful event was amazing. I stood on the balcony of Farmers Hall and shot a short video that is posted on my Spring Jubilee Lens that does a pretty good job telling the story. While I was shooting this video, I had chills as I watched the event in progress. Everything had come together: All the work of Jo McConnell and the Pendleton District Commission, all the labor of the Pendleton Public Works, all the talents of the artisans,entertainers and vendors, and all the efforts of the supporters. The overall atmosphere was one of Jubilation

I think this was this was the best one ever and it just felt good to be a part of it. Now I am looking forward to next year so hope to see you all then.

Scrap Exchange Coming To Spring Jubilee

On Saturday April 4, The Scrap Exchange will be at Spring Jubilee from 10 am to 4 pm. Kids of all ages will enjoy creating items to take home. This will be FREE to the children and it sounds like a lot of fun! I had emailed The Scrap Exchange and asked them to write a few words about their organization for this blog. The Scrap Exchange is a creative reuse center located in downtown
Durham, North Carolina. Our mission is to promote creativity,
environmental awareness, and community through reuse. We collect
tons of clean, reusable industrial discards from area businesses and
manufacturers every year and bring them sorted and ready to use to
festivalsj for children and adults to make anything they can imagine.

Since 1991, the Scrap Exchange has been providing a unique form of
hands-on arts and craft activity for people of all ages. We fill a
van with a fascinating collection of materials--foam, fabric,
stickers, cardboard cones and tubes, bottle caps, and a whole bunch
of things we’re sure you’ve never seen before--and we will be coming
to the Historic Pendleton Spring Jubilee on April 4th 2009!

Attendees use the materials (along with the scissors, staplers, and
tape that we bring with us) to make whatever they can think of--hats,
rocket ships, sculptures, handbags. The options are endless.

For thirty-one years the Pendleton District Commission has welcomed visitors to Pendleton’s Village Green to celebrate the end of the gray days of winter as dogwoods and daffodils bloom. The tradition continues April 4-5, 2009 with the 32nd Annual Historic Pendleton Spring Jubilee.

Spring Jubilee began in 1978 as a means to inaugurate the tourism season for Anderson, Oconee and Pickens Counties, the region served by the PDC. A previous event had been moved from the village green to a neighboring town because organizers felt the setting was too small. The Pendleton District Commission instead saw a beautiful setting, surrounded by historic trees and buildings, a central location for the three counties and lots of potential. Emphasis was placed on creating an event that showcased the best in arts and crafts, which included creative works and musical entertainment. The rest is history. The Spring Jubilee has earned local, regional and national respect through the years. It has twice been named the Best Festival in the State of South Carolina in a community of less than 5,000 residents, designated a Top Twenty Event by the Southeast Tourism Society and a Top 100 Event in the U. S. by the American Bus Association.

With those honors comes a responsibility to maintain the high standards which earned the awards. Selection of the artists and crafters follows a careful process of jurying each application. Uniqueness and originality of the product, execution of design and appeal to the shoppers are all carefully considered. The number of accepted applicants is limited per category to give the show diversity, not only in design but in price. Whether you want to make an investment in the arts, buy a birthday present or wear a unique piece of jewelry, you can find that item at Spring Jubilee. Artists from Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Missouri, Kansas and neighboring communities in South Carolina are ready to help you make your selection of their creative works.

Entertainment is focused at the center stage. This year you can enjoy the bluegrass of Tugalo Holler, gospel music by Providence Quartet, or remember those college days with Cravin’ Melon acoustics. The Clemson University Jazz Combo will fill the air with rhythm and Jack Roper’s magic antics will tickle your funny bone. Anderson’s own award-winning Senior Follies will show us all how to stay young at heart. Plan to come for the day, sit back and enjoy a fun mix of local and regional talent.

Green isn’t just the color of the grass where the Jubilee is held. It is the symbol for our responsibility to protect our environment by recycling and the Jubilee is going to make it fun. The Town of Pendleton’s Curbside Recycling Program and Anderson County’s Keep America Beautiful program is sponsoring THE SCRAP EXCHANGE, a non-profit creative reuse center that promotes creativity, environmental awareness and community through reuse of industrial discards and reclaimed materials. People of all ages will have a great time making hats, rockets, puppets, handbags or any number of items under the supervision of The Scrap Exchange. It’s creative, it’s responsible and it’s FREE!! Plan to come and join the fun from 10 am – 4 pm on Saturday, April 4. On Sunday, April 5, the Blue Ridge Arts Center will have their “Make It and Take It” booth with four interactive hands-on art activities for kids ages 4-12 to create a work of art to take home. Both activities are free of charge and waiting for the creative juices to flow. Who knows, a future artist/crafter for Spring Jubilee may be found at these fun activities.

Historic tours will be available at Ashtabula and Woodburn Plantations as they re-open after a winter’s nap. These historic properties offer a walk through a long-ago period that helped shaped the region we know today. Admission is charged to help on-going restoration and preservation of these house museums.

The Jubilee Joy Ride returns for the 18th year to offer carefully planned loops that will take you onto some of the most beautiful roads in Anderson County on Saturday, April 4. Registration is from 8- 10 a.m.. The ride begins at the Pendleton District Agricultural Museum, located on History Lane off Hwy. 76, across from Tri-County Technical College. The 28-mile loop explores the quiet country roads of Anderson and La France. The metric century (62.5miles) route starts on the 28-mile loop and adds another 35 miles which takes the riders into the rolling hills of northern Anderson County. Rest stops with snacks and refreshments will be available on all the routes. There is no mass start and it is held rain or shine. Minors must be accompanied by an adult and helmets are required. All this activity is sure to make you hungry. Grilled Polish sausages, hot dogs, bar-b-q and festival staples of powdered sugar coated funnel cakes and fresh-squeezed lemonade, along with the offerings of the local restaurants, will satisfy kids and adults alike.

Spring Jubilee Arts and Crafts Festival

Spring Jubilee 09 will be the 32nd Annual Spring Jubilee in Historic Pendleton South Carolina. It is a Juried Arts and Crafts Festival sponsored by Pendleton District Commission and is always held the first full weekend in April.

Not only will there be exhibits by top quality Artisans, there will be entertainment and great food and all in a beautiful setting. Pendleton is a small historic town nestled in the foothills of South Carolina. The festival takes place on the Village Green on the town square.

There will be artisans in the following categories: Art, Baskets, Carving, Glass, Jewelry, Metal, Photo, Pottery, Sewing, Specialty Crafts, Toys, and Woodcraft. These artisans were chosen for the coveted spaces on the Village Green because of their high quality and I am most anxious to visit each and everyone of them.

Spring Jubilee is a special time for our little town of Pendleton as we get to show off our town to some 20,000 visitors. We offer some wonderful restaurants, specialty shops and antiques all within a walking distance from the festival.

Spring Jubilee will be April 4 and 5 this year. Saturday's activities will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until 6:00 pm but it won't end there. Tri County Tech is having Bluegrass Under The Stars with free fireworks and free admission beginning at 6 pm at the Campus Amphitheater.

I don't know about you but I can't wait to bite into my once a year Funnel Cake and enjoy the festivities in Pendleton.
